Deathhead Hawk Moth Handpainted Suncatcher fused skull
 
This fantastic one-of-a-kind stained glass piece was made by a local artist, Tamara Goldsmith in her Portland-based home studio.
This psychedelic piece pays homage to the Death-head Hawk Moth, but with unusual & unnatural colors. These cool moths famously have patterning resembling a human skull on it's fuzzy little back.  It's wings are handpainted in hot pink, white and navy, utilizing 6 cut pieces on opaque teal, purple and blue stained glass including a mildly glow-in-the-dark fused skull made from glow glass clay pressed into a skull form and fired until hardened glass. 
Intricate soldered wirework forms the antennae to complete the piece, and the metalwork has been patinaed black.
 
Measures about 6" across and 4" tall and hangs at one top anchor points at the head from a black chain. 
The solder lines on this piece have been given a black patina, and are waxed for a protective, shiny surface. 60/40 lead/tin solder was used and the border is lead came.
Lead is not dangerous to have in your home in an art-piece like this unless sanded or causing lead-dust to be airborne and inhaled or somehow ingested. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands well after cleaning or handling the piece.
