Handpainted Moon Jewel Planchette Stained Glass Dichroic Gem Suncatcher

This gorgeous one-of-a-kind stained glass piece was made by  local artist, Tamara Goldsmith in her Portland-based home studio.

This handpainted stained glass piece entitled "Moon Jewel" is a Sun-catcher Planchette, popularized in the early part of the century by mystics and occult leaders as an instrument used with an Ouija Board thought to summon and communicate with the dead. Utilizing 15 wispy teal cut glass pieces including a dichroic color-changing faceted gemstone, this piece measures about 6" across and 8" tall and hangs at two top anchor points from a black chain.

Handpainted on the surface are golden batwings flanking the jewel, and "YES NO" and "GOODBYE".

The solder lines on this piece have been given a black patina, and are waxed for a protective, shiny surface. 60/40 lead/tin solder was used and the border is lead came.

The faceted jewel is made from a very special dichroic (color-changing) glass. Its sparkles beautifully in direct sunlight and the color shifts from pink to blue to every color in-between.  Pictures show how differently the colors of the gem vary in different types of light, or with movement.

Hangs from one point near the top and sides with a heavy antiqued brass chain.

Lead is not dangerous to have in your home in an art-piece like this unless sanded or causing lead-dust to be airborne and inhaled or somehow ingested. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands well after cleaning or handling the piece.
