This beautiful copper-foiled stained glass sun catcher was handmade by Tamara Goldsmith in her Portland, OR studio.

This wonderful Fremont mouthblown glass is rich with a multitude of colors ranging from blue to pink to green and magenta. Fremont Glass is one of the last remaining hot shops in the world that still practices the traditional glass-blowing technique of slumping a mouthblown cylinder in a kiln. This special glass, made in Seattle, WA, is a bit more expensive than the machine-made stuff, but well worth every penny. In stained glass terms, "Antique" doesn't mean old, but rather having various minerals added to the glass, resulting in unique colors , sparkle and a uniform smoothness on both sides.

The solder lines on this piece have been given a black patina, and are waxed for a protective, shiny surface. Some fun wirework details have been added under the mushroom cap.

Hangs from the top with a steel chain.

Measures about 5" wide, 8" tall and hangs from the top of the chain to the bottom; about 14" in total.

60/40 lead/tin solder was used and the border is lead came.

Lead is not dangerous to have in your home in an art-piece like this unless sanded, causing lead-dust to be airborne and inhaled or somehow ingested. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands well after cleaning or handling the piece.
